Glomesh - Iconic 1960s Glamour

1960s 60s australia bags chain mail designer fashion glomesh handbags history

Glomesh is a historical Australian brand which has been producing chain mail bags since 1958. The label was started by Hungarian immigrants Alice and Louis Kennedy, who brought their experience from the European couture scene. Alice was the model for the first export catalogue (pictured here) and continued to be the face of the brand.
The iconic look of Glomesh accessories became a symbol of luxury and glamour on the 1960s Australian socialite scene. Louis and Alice passed away in 2008 and 2010, as the global obsession with vintage fashion took off, and everyone went rummaging through their mothers’ and grandmothers’ cupboards.
In 2014 the brand was resurrected by Louis’ and Alice’s grandson Daniel Goldberg. Today Glomesh continues to produce modern versions of the original bags which echo the classic designs and retail around AU$495 or R6200.
We’ve just added an original 1960s white chain mail Glomesh bag in excellent condition to the store at only R700. Own a piece of fashion history - shop bags here.
