Kokichi Mikimoto was credited with creating the world's first cultured pearl in 1893. He went on to establish his luxury pearl company Mikimoto, and the cultured pearl industry was born. More than 120 years later, Mikimoto pearls are some of the most expensive and collectable pearls in the world. The brand is synonymous with luxury craftsmanship and traditional Japanese design, making their jewellery and accessories highly sought after. See www.mikimotoamerica.com for more information and inspiration.
Lehza Vintage is fortunate enough to have an original Mikimoto evening bag on the store. This bespoke piece, circa 1980s, is crafted in high quality gold brocade silk with gold plated chain and silk lining. The handbag features three perfectly round cultured pearls on the front. The chain can be folded inside bag when not in use. Only a handful of these bags are available online and retail between R8000 - R12 000. See details on the bag here.
Japanese Women's Fashion from the 1960s

After World War II, Japanese fashion was highly influenced by the West, as you can see by these amazing spreads from a Japanese fashion magazine Young Woman (1969). Western style silhouettes such as the mini skirt and slim fitting dresses can be seen, sometimes in a subtle traditional Japanese floral print, merging the two worlds together. I'm obsessed with these looks which are giving me 90s Clueless vibes and would be totally wearable today.
